The universe - probably too big a subject

Dear Ella,

Funny old Friday... went out to St Peters Hospice to chat to a "bereavement expert" - I went because I knew you would have told me to go...so I did.  Was an experience that's for sure, and not a waste of time.  Enough said.

Anyway, it must have released something, felt the urge to look through a few of your things when I got home - this included your Art School stuff.   It made me smile when I found one of your tutor feedback sheets  which included the headline - "The Universe - probably too big a subject"?

Oh Ella, the universe has never been too big a subject for you - black holes, solar system, stars, asteroids - you name it you loved it.

I wonder what your universe is like now?

Lots of love

Mum

  1. I adored my art lessons with her and I was so happy to hear how much she loved art school!
Looking through some of her work on-line inspires me to think out side the box.

Haha! I just remembered our Physics trip and how funny it was! We ate as much nitrogen ice cream as we could before it mealted!

    2. Georgina you and Ella were such great students - I think as you both had your Science interests you both took inspiration from many things that I would not have even considered- or perhaps understood! How could we not have fun with you coming in with your bedroom door to paint on 'honestly Dad says its fine'actually your Dad showed it to me the other day back where it should be- back on its hinges looking fab:) I loved seeing Ella creating huge gravity defying structures painstakingly glueing together hundreds of lollysticks - more physics skills far beyond mine. I ordered 1000's instead of 100's of sticks by mistake- they always make me smile when I see them in my art cupboard :)
I found another piece of her work today- it made my heart pull but it also made me smile as I remembered her talents. I am so pleased we will be able so show Ella's work on the memorial wall at APS I will keep you in touch with progress. Lots of love Annabel xxx

  3. Nice thoughts Jo and a nice picture of a galaxy. Ella would have know that there are estimated to be over a 100 billion Galaxies in the observable universe, with billions of stars in each one. That's a lot of stars, many times more stars than there are grains of sands on all the beaches of little old planet Earth (ask U Jim, he knows that!), love Rob

  4. Max is also one for black holes and things. I find it very hard to wrap my head around all of the space and universe stuff - the 'more stars than grains of sand' info has really sent me spinnning! We've had some beautiful clear night skies here in London of late - I love a good gaze but have no idea what I am looking at! I just feel that that being part of all of that surely we cant just start and end here!
